The Saints Stink Friday, 07 March 2008 | Joe LewsWEB SITE REFLECTS MANAGEMENT!The inept design of the New Orleans Saints website is atrocious. I... + Full Story
My son James left for the Air Force Monday. They swore him in Tues. and he called before leaving Montgomery to fly to Texas to begin Basic Traning. He was more than a little apprehensive.
Capt. Billy (my brother in law) took us guys fishing today on Pensacola Bay. We had a really good time! I am lucky to have such a fine Brother in law. One who also has a nice boat! Plus... he knows where and how to catch Red Fish! He took Me, Jon and Joe out just a short way from the dock and in a little while, fish were coming up everwhere!
I just wanted to send the pics from the "Day out with Thomas the Train". We had a lot of fun and Tweetsie Railroad is a really good set-up for kids. We went with Matthew, Amy, and Douthard and everyone really enjoyed it. It was pretty hot but felt bearable because of the mountains. I so love western NC!
Well I have found my pea sheller. I call it a redneck pea sheller. It is a simple little contraption. I think I will market it. It is not found in the stores. It is more of an aid than a real sheller. However, if you have ever had a sore thumb from shelling peas, this will be a must have item in your pea shelling arsenal.
Well today was the Padgett Reunion. It was a lot of fun, I enjoyed it very much. I only wish more of you could have come. Dan was great as the master of ceremonies as always. Bill Cotton was there looking pretty danged good for what all he has been through. He still has to get his other leg fixed but the one that he had operated on is doing great. Also, Paul Stanley and his family made it from Tennessee!
I find myself reminiscing about Lake Victor and all of the good times I had there when life was not so complicated. I remember Me and Benny Riddle (Aunt Sue's other nephew through her other brother A.B. (Buddy) Riddle and Dorothy. We got up early one Saturday morning to get out on the lake and do some fishin'.
When I was between five and eight years old, I lived in a house close to Uncle Bert and Aunt Ethel. Many happy times were spent playing with the Riddle Children. This story is about one of those times. Margret, maybe Glen, and I were playing in a stream of water about a quarter mile south of the Riddle house. We called it Wilmer Branch.
There was not much water still we could find ways to entertain ourselves. Our imaginations could turn large leaves into ships that we would float in the shallow water. Sometimes we would launch a whole armada of these sturdy ships, and then bombard them with clods of dirt as they floated downstream.
Several of you have asked me to report on Australia, so here goes. Will try to give prices when possible in case any of you would like to make the trip. Have booked the flight on Cheapoair, really good deal if anyone needs a cheap flight, $3600.00 for both of us from here to Melbourne round trip.
Leave tomorrow, trying to decide what time to depart house, what to take etc. It is winter in Australia, but will be Spring before we leave, plus our side trip to Singapore will be very hot. So need 3 seasons of clothes. John just went in and threw in a few items and said "I'm done". I am putting just a little more thought into my wardrobe
If we had a reunion. Would you come? There are a lot of people that would like to have a reunion so I thought I would put it in the paper and see what everyone says.
Sue has mentioned September because they have the Mimm's Reunion then and her family would already be in the area. I guess we could have it in DeFuniak again, at the Armory, but I am open to suggestions. I think I will put a poll up and see what month and location you might think would be best.
My Uncle Milton was just one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. I remember when I was in my mid 20's, I worked for some time in Panama City. I visited with him some then. We would shoot pool, and just hang out together, it was a super nice time.
When I chose April's relative of the month it was with great intrepidation. I knew that I would not do her justice because there is so much to say about Sue, and I am confident much of it will be left out. I am sorry for that. Maybe we can have a redo next year
