This looks more like where I should have been typing. We had Lydia today and what a hoot she is. She spent the night and we shopped all day. As I was driving her home I told her next time we would get Bubs for the spend the night She said in no uncertain terms - You are not sneaking off without me. It will be me and Bubs. It was ok for us to sneak off from him but we better not pull that on her. What a total riot. We went to Target for shoes - needed sneakers. She had to have a second pair of Barbie Pink Sparkle shoes or not leave the store. Little girls are so much fun. Needless to say we got both pair of shoes Life is good. Fran |

OK - I can't resist one more wedding pictures and the rest are vacation.
In case you are wondering it is so hot here that I don't even want to go to the mall. Have been alternating between the pool and the computer. It is really bad when it is to hot to shop!
Much love to all of you and I hope to see you Saturday at the Reunion.

This week I found out something new about my husbands family history. His great grandmother was an orphan train rider. We don't know much about her because like most of the other OTR's she didn't like to talk about her past. She died in 1952 so I'm not sure how much information the family will get on her. I made a call to the New York Foundling Hospital (they adopted her out) yesterday and found out that if we can show proof that Brian is related to her and give them her date of birth they should be able to help us locate any information they have on her. I'm not sure what questions they could answer. It would be nice to know something about her. From what I understand once she was adopted she was treated pretty badly. She didn't speak about it once she married Brian's great grandfather so no one in the family knows much. I'll admit before hearing what little the family knows of her story I knew nothing of the Orphan Train Riders. What I've found out since is heart breaking. There were so many children on the streets of New York and single parents that felt like they couldn't take care of the children, or abusive parents that had their children taken away. Several orphanages put these kids on trains and sent them out to the mid-west. One of the ways they did this was someone would write in saying they wanted a blond haired, blue eyed little girl, or whatever and the nuns would do their best to find a match. They would then send a receipt with a number and a time the train was to arrive. When the train got to the station the adoptive parents would had over the receipt and the nuns would check it against the children's number pinned to there clothes. What's worse is that most of the children were not adopted out to loving homes but used as laborers. Unfortunately what I imagine began as a program to rescue these orphans and give them a home turned into something so awful they were ashamed to speak of it. I'm sad that not many people know about this because it is a part of our American History. To live a life like must have been awful. |

Now I get it. Those looks I'd get from mother's of multiple children when I used to freak out about how I would get *anything* done now that I had a baby when Mo was born. I get it now. And I thank all of them for not smacking me upside the head and telling me that one child was easy and what the hell was I griping about? On the other hand - why the heck didn't you tell me that one child was easy and I should stop griping and enjoy it as much as possible before having another one????

Well, although I haven't even met her, Sylvia has solved a huge problem for me. I have been wondering how to share information with family members and friends with out jumbling up my site. Now with e blogger I can do just that.
With the RSS Feed feature I can write the blog here with the photos that I want to share. Then folks can come here. To look at pictures or read more! It costs me no band width and integrates nicely into my Joomla site at rpnewspaper.com. It is a genealogy site for Riddles Padgett's and others.
Now instead of having to log in to the newspaper and adding content they can just put it here. It's great because other people can read it besides just family members. So thank you Sylvia. Even though we have never met. You have simplified my life!

I'm not sure how often I'll be able to post but here goes. We took the boys to the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens during part of their spring break.
