"Local Songwriter/Singer Aims Song for Palin's Ear"When McCain's VP Sarah Palin lands in Pensacola this Tuesday local singer songwriter and Milton resident Terry Lewis hopes to greet her with a song. Lewis would like to get a CD of his original song "Sarah Barracuda" to the candidate so she can hear it.
Lewis' song, number one on Yahoo search for Sarah Palin Songs is popular on Youtube. It was recently one of the featured songs on NPR's "All things considered" in a segment about songs dedicated to the Governor and other political candidates. It was described as a heartfelt upbeat "Go Girl" country song.
Lewis says he will not be attending the rally, but is a huge Palin fan. " I wrote the song for her after the group "Heart" made such a big deal about the campaign using their "Barracuda" song. I honestly think my "Sarah Barracuda" is better than the "Moose Shooting Mama" song the campaign decided to use." Lewis said. "But I might be a little biased.
"I really just want to know she heard it., that would be enough" The song was co written with Lewis' longtime songwriting partner. Rickey Jabbo Parsons from Destin Florida. He just enlisted in the Air Force this year. It would be a great Christmas present." Lewis plans to contact the Santa Rosa Republican Party on Monday to see if they can help with his request.
Lewis who has been singing and writing in the gulf coast area for the last 30 years has written several political songs. The 56 year old Lewis attended Escambia High and Pensacola Jr. College. Lewis edits and publishes an online newspaper, rpnewspaper.com.
